Information freedom – Whom can you really trust?

Information freedom – Whom can you really trust?

I’m going to talk about Anonymous which are an associated network of hackers. They are a movement that stands for freedom of speech and disagree with a lot of decisions by the government. They don’t want them to hide important information that can easily change people’s minds about certain things. I do agree with a lot of things Anonymous stand for myself. The government shouldn’t hide such vital information and lie to the public in my opinion. We should know certain things the government tries to hide. Just for an example when a video was leaked from Wikileaks of an American helicopter shooting and killing civilians in Iraq. I think it’s disgraceful that the American government was trying to hide that information about the war and lie to everyone. I think a lot of newspapers and even TV and some parts of the Internet lie to us as well.

Wikileaks is a website that posts secret information. Wikileaks leaked documents from Kaupthing Bank just before the collapse of Iceland’s banking sector, which caused financial crisis for Iceland. The document showed that large sums of money were loaned to various owners of the bank, and the debts were written off. People were right to know about that because the people put their money in that bank and deserved to know what was really going on. Well it wouldn’t feel that great to log on to your bank account and see that there’s no money in my account at all.

Operation payback was basically an attack on the US goverment and also on bank websites who had canceled all facilities from Wikileaks. So what they did was that they used DDoS attacks which can make webpages unavailable.

In countries like Egypt and North Korea a lot of parts of the Internet are censored. In my opinion that’s wrong because I think everybody should be able to get information from the Internet if they want to. When a country censors such things as free internet, you kind off understand that they are afraid to show something. Surely there are things on the internet that probably should be censored, but at the same time I think some countries censor information that’s really important for the people to get access to and get to know about which is completely wrong, and cowardly by the country to do in my opinion.

  1. Hej Andreas,

Bra jobbat!

    Angela.
